About the Team

GrowCow was born out of the need to do lawn care more responsibly.

GrowCow emerged from MowCow Lawn and Landscape, the local, neighborly company known for providing “Udderly Dependable”™ yard maintenance and landscaping services since 1986.

We’ve always had a practical approach to what we do and that’s why we’ve been successful.

We are practical environmentalists.

We understand that great lawns in the challenging soils of Northern Virginia require nourishment and nurturing. We also understand that suburban stormwater runoff contributes to the degradation of local streams here in Northern Virginia and the Chesapeake Bay.

To meet our clients’ desire for a thick, lush, weed free lawn without excessive use of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, GrowCow worked with an environmental scientist and a manufacturer to develop a lawn care protocol that addressing these concerns.

Thus, we combine fresh organics and science and to provide great looking lawns, with drastically reduced synthetic pesticide and fertilizer inputs.

Most traditional lawn care programs charge you by the visit. We, instead, apply nutrients and fresh organics as dictated by the weather, turf and soil conditions. We apply what is needed, when it’s needed.

Is this a trick? Absolutely not. It’s a new approach to lawn care that is better for your yard and better for the Bay.

Our Experts

Robb Boutelle > Turf Specialist

Before joining GrowCow over 15 years ago, Robb spent 4 ½ years in the United States Marine Corp training officers on wire guided missile systems. That attention to detail and ability to explain and teach has served him well as a large part of successful Turf Care is helping customers to understand the decisions that need to be made for their particular turf.

When asked what differentiates him from others in the turf care field, Robb simply summed it up with “trust”. As someone who enjoys working outside, Robb uses his own yard as a testing ground. Before recommending that something be used, he prefers to have tried it himself or to have seen it used successfully somewhere else. When he does suggest something new, you can bet that he’s basing that on years of experience helping him to make an informed recommendation.

Robb spends his free time gardening, swimming, and jogging. With daylight hours spent on customer lawns, he’s even devised an Iron Man style light that allows him to get his jogging in safely at night (no laser though).

Robb’s family time is spent either hanging out at the house or attending activities with his wife and two kids. He coaches wrestling and baseball for them as well.

When asked what music concert he’d like to attend if given the chance, he said “Kid Rock, but my wife would probably pick Beyonce.

Heather Rorrer > Turf Specialist

Heather has spent the last couple of years working both inside and outside of the GrowCow offices. She started working with customers and our Turf Care team as a customer care advocate. Her desire to see what was actually happening on the lawn led to her requesting to ride along with technicians and specialists when they went to visit clients.

After taking on a larger role as our Irrigation Specialist, she quickly realized that the hands on approach was for her and she stepped further into the Turf Care arena. She works closely with Cindy (our staff environmental scientist) to explore what plants and flowers are best for those trickier lawns.

Richard Linsday > Founder/President

Rick is our Founder and President. With over 27 years of experience, Rick still visits properties and works closely with many of our customers. He is a proponent of practical environmentalism which helped usher in GrowCow’s Mooganix.

Rick has a son in college and another who will be there soon. He and his wife Cindy, our staff environmental scientist (and professor), enjoy spending time in the yard working on gardens, flower beds, and trees. Although, Cindy would tell you that he enjoys spending time at his grill even more!
